thursday the 27th of September 2012

Hi there:

Nice morning.  I was at the Arena this morning at 10 to 6a.m. to see who might be out and about at 6a.m.  I met Pat Morden coming from the other direction,  just as I was starting out on Veterans Way.

It's good weather right now, early in the morning.  It's dark, but I stay where the street lights are and there is vertually no traffic.  It's easy enough to get 3 or 4 miles in just on the light up streets in Town.

Maybe a Novermber run?  What do you think?  I was thinking November 11th, however, I see it's on a Sunday.  Maybe that's ok.  A Sunday afternoon run.  I'm thinking toque and mitts for that one maybe.  But that's ok - it will get us in the swing of it.  It's amazing how you can run very comfortably in cold weather by layering with the right moisture wicking underwear.  The correct clothes makes it possible.  They make very good clothes for outdoor activities in the winter.

A winter run can be very enjoyable.  I think of a bit of snow falling and 10 belowish.  It's very quiet.

1st Day of Fall, Sept. 22nd, 2012

Trevor Barkman, Keith Immerkar, Cade Varey, Garry Kenedy Heather Hart, Michelle Smith, Nicholas Baskier, Katie Smith, Nate Immerkar, Callie Immerkar, Rhys Varey, Jenna Smith, Ava Hart, Ella Hart, Shanna Schroeder, Julie Baskier.

We had a good run up at Wellman Lake.  The weather was perfect for running  and lots of fall colours and sun.    There were seven adults and nine young runners.

"Young Runners"  can sure run.  They were well out in front at 3/4 throttle pace.  And, we didn't need to worry about bears.  We would not have surprised any bears - they could hear us coming for miles.

It was a great "First Day of Fall" kick off.  The leaves were very showy.  The hot dogs hit the spot after the run.

Thanks Karen for tending the fire, making the coffee, etc., while we ran the course.

Come 1213,  we'll do'er again.

Keep give'n'er,

ps  We had some fantastic chocolate chip muffins, veggies, fruit, puff wheat cake, cookies - all the good stuff.   And, thanks to Val - we had lots of  bottled water on hand.

Monday Monday

New week started today.  Lots of colour in the leaves now.  Seems like this week-end they really changed.  I think it's fall time now.  The water temp of some Mb. Lakes taken by Joy at  Water Stewardship  were  13, 9 and 7*C - three separate readings.  So, the water is cooling down.  It would be a darn cool swim.

Getting a few more people that are going to do the Wellman Lake Trail Run this Saturday.  About 7 people so far.  If you can make it up, it would be great to see you there.  It's a nice Fall Run with lots of colours.  Soon, there will be no leaves, only branches, colder and less colour (more brown/grey).   And then snow.  So, now's the time, this Saturday the 22nd at 1:00p.m., to do a trail run and breath the freshest air in the world and enjoy the scenery.

Post Run in the cookshack will be warm and hot dogs - don't worry about bringing anythin else.  It's all we need.  Maybe bring a dry top, like a hoodie, that you can pull on after the run.

Morning Runs, every Tuesday and Thursday  at 6:30a.m.  3 miles - just to keep us tuned in.  Spring is a long ways away so we need to keep running a bit before we do the big ramp up come May.

See you there,

THURSDAY THE 13TH

Ran this morning at 6:30a.m. in the Industrial Park; a three mile loop.  It was calm this morning.  I wore mitts because on Tuesday I dam near froze my hands.  This time out, my hands were sweating like crazy in those mitts.   A nice run, easy going, the morning is just starting to break.  It's a great way to start the day.

If anybody wants to join me in  a morning run, I'm going to get going on a schedule; a routine.   It's better to set something up rather than random.  And, it's better to run with other runners.

So, here's the schedule.   Every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30a.m. at the arena parking lot.  A three mile run out 83, into the Industrial Park and back to the rink via the Crescent Theater and Morley's Meats.   Nothing hard paced,  no big distance and only twice per week.  But.......  It will be regualr, punctual (leave parking lot at 6:30a.m. on the dot) every Tuesday and Thursday.    The first week of routine will be Tuesday the 18th and Thursday the 20th.

A piece of cake!!!!!!

Tuesday the 11th of September

Ran 3 miles this morning at 6:30a.m.  Street lights were on.   A low pressure came in over night with a strong wind out of the Southwest.  My hands got cold running against it.  I did the Industrial Park.  It was great when I changed direction and had the wind in my back.

The 32nd Annual Terry Fox Run will be held Sept. 16 at the Swan River Centennial Arena. Pledge sheets can be picked up at a number of Valley businesses including the Star & Times. Registration is from 12-1 p.m. with the shotgun start beginning at 1:30 p.m. There is no registration fee or minimum pledge requirement. For more information you can contact Twyla at 281-1790.

Wellman Lake Trail Run on Saturday the 22nd at 1:00p.m.   Some of the trees are starting to turn colour.  I noticed some Tamarac are getting yellow as well.  Clear blue sky and blue lake with the fall leaves makes for a great run.  kolidascope (isn't that the word that describes it??).   It's good for every thing about you.   See you there at the cookshack.

September 6th, 2012

I'm on the Injury List.  I won't be running for a bit.  I pulled a calf muscle two weeks ago and then tried to start up running again but it was too early.  I felt it tear a bit more so immediately stopped and limped home.  I guess I will have to give it a bit more time to heal up properly ( one of the hardest things to do ).

So, the proposed Wellman Lake Trail Run on Sept. 22nd.......................
..........I've had 3 people say they would be interested since the last posting on August 15th ( Keith, Trevor and Jolie).
Not a big hit, but it's still just the 6th of Sept.    If you are interested in keeping things going here.............  the more the merrier.  It's a very nice run thru the bush.  Easy going or hard going if you want to give the legs a work out going up Corp.

Lets go with it then.  The run starts at 1:00p.m. on the 22nd (Saturday) at the Wellman Lake Cookshack.  I'll tend the fire  in the cook shack and supply the hot dogs, buns and wienner sticks.
I'll see if I can scounge some bottle water again from Northern Specialties.  You're welcome to bring whatever else you want for a lunch too   ( chocolate bars, oranges, yogrut, gator aid, etc.). Lets make it a Pot Luck Lunch - bring something.  We all like to eat, especially after a great bush trail run.

We'll see you there.  Be there or be square.  Rain or Shine.   Does somebody have a gps or distance gismo?  It would be nice to see what the mileage is around the lake.

Keep give'n'er,

ps  Try posting a comment, I never get any??????
